Lot 109 Japanese Satsuma Yabu Meizan Kogo
Item/Description: Japanese Satsuma earthenware kogo (incense box), Meiji Period, late 19th to early 20th century. Intricately decorated earthenware circular tripod kogo, elevated on three parcel-gilt feet. Hand-painted with an elegant figural scene depicting nobles and attendants in a serene landscape with Mount Fuji in the distance. Enhanced with a crackle glaze, intricate gold gilt, and polychrome enamels, featuring dense floral and geometric borders characteristic of Kyo-Satsuma ware. The underside bears a hand-painted gold seal mark for Yabu Meizan (Japanese, 1853-1934), one of Japan's most celebrated Satsuma artists renowned for technical precision and refined miniature painting.
